Motivate Media Group is seeking a driven, dynamic and experienced Deputy Editor to help lead print and digital content for What’s On Abu Dhabi.

This dynamic and exciting role requires a candidate that is passionate about all aspects of life in Abu Dhabi, writes with creative flair, and is excited to be at the forefront of a fast-paced city.

The UAE’s first ever magazine, What’s On is the go-to brand for making the most of life in the Emirates.

The right candidate for the Deputy Editor role should be comfortable writing across all aspects of UAE life, from the big events and gigs, to breaking community news.

Vast and varied experience of writing for both print and online audience is a must, as is an ability to lead the creative direction of a monthly magazine from planning to production. Experience in managing social media accounts, and creating video, is also essential.

The right candidate must be able to produce clean, error-free copy on a tight deadline, and have solid experience in commissioning and sub-editing copy. The Deputy Editor will work with the Group Editor in devising and implementing the brand’s print, online and social media strategy, as well as overseeing commercial projects. The successful candidate will also act as a brand guardian, responsible for setting and monitoring the quality and tone of all What’s On Abu Dhabi content, as well as representing the title at events.

A journalistic instinct to identify fresh, engaging, original content that works for both an online audience and comes to life visually in the magazine, is crucial. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated team player with a minimum of three years’ experience in relevant roles and will possess impeccable communication and organisation skills.

The Deputy Editor will work alongside the wider What’s On team to optimise print and digital concepts, as well as working seamlessly with the sales team to visualise and drive commercially viable growth. The Deputy Editor will also be responsible for some budgetary planning, and making sure all content is legally sound.

Experience in working with Google Analytics and Parse.ly is beneficial.

Knowledge of the region is preferred but not essential, and the successful candidate will be based in our Abu Dhabi office and required to travel to our Dubai Media City HQ on a weekly basis.
