It may not save the planet but Hublot’s recycled watch made from Nespresso pods is still a step in the right direction.

Nespresso partnered with the Swiss watch brand to create new products from used aluminium capsules. The Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin is the result of their shared values of innovation, excellence and sustainability, which are at the core of both brands.

Hublot is renowned for its innovative fusions ,developing new alloys, materials and composites, while pushing the boundaries of different materials and placing rubber at the heart of the watchmaking industry by using it for its straps.

Nespresso’s recycling system  separates the aluminium from the coffee grounds, enabling each component to be repurposed. And that’s how a coffee capsule can become a watch, from strap to case.

The brands call it a world first, using recycled aluminium, of which 28 per cent comes from Nespresso coffee capsules, anodised in vibrant green.

The watch strap is 100 per cent recycled fabric, of which 5 per cent comes from coffee grounds – another first for a watch.

“It took the R&D teams a whole year to achieve the uniformity of colour of the watch’s seven different materials, find the right balance of ingredients and perform the quality and durability testing on all the product components,” said Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot CEO.

In the sporting world, it sponsors multiple sports from football to tennis, sailing to cricket. It has a host of sports ambassadors such as Novak Djokovic, Kylian Mbappé and Usain Bolt.
